アクティビティ概要

On this guided tour you’ll experience kayaking in the ocean through the crystal clear waters of Kailua Bay as you head towards the often photographed Mokes or Twin Islands.

Nā Mokulua, or informally known as Mokulua, are two islets off the windward coast of Oahu. It is between a 60-80 minute paddle out from Kailua Beach Park to reach the only island allowed to visit, Moku Nui. Then you can choose to hike around the back side of the island, if the weather is permitting, or hike to queens bath and its surrounding tidepools. Be sure to stay on the trail and put up any litter. The island is also a bird sanctuary and has heaps of fluffy baby chicks in the springtime. Please respect the local wildlife. Look, but don’t touch them, they are cute and fluffy but depend on the seclusion of the island to keep them safe.

The whole tour of paddling out to Moku Nui, hiking around and enjoying the island takes about 5 hours.

What to Expect

Please meet at the Kailua Storefront to check-in 1 hour before your tour starts. Here you’ll meet your guide and receive a safety demo, description of the route, kayaking lessons, and a brief cultural history. From there we will guide you through strapping your kayak to your 4-door vehicle and provide you with all the necessary equipment to have fun, including lifejackets.

You will then drive to Kailua Beach Park ( 6 minute drive) and meet your guide in the water with your kayak and gear where your tour will begin. Your guide will direct you how to get in and out of your kayak safely and how to paddle effectively. If you’re feeling adventurous you may be able to stop at Popoia island on the way to Moku Nui as well as stop at Lanikai beach to snorkel, just ask your guide. On the way out to the mokes your guide will explain the local cultural and historical significance of these islands as well as the animal life that call them home. Maybe even seeing a sea turtle or a monk seal.

Once on Moku Nui island your guide will help you explore and hike around, visiting queen’s bath and its surrounding tidepools and possibly the back side of the island if the weather permits.

As you head back on your kayak you get spectacular views of Kailua Bay and Lanikai and talk story with your guide about this special place. When you return to Kailua beach you will simply strap the kayak back on your car and meet the guide at the Kailua Storefront where you will be given a fresh lunch and shave ice.
