Beginning the Adventure

Your fun-filled day begins at our storefront located in Kailua, about a 30 minute drive from Waikiki. Our shop is accessible via your own vehicle, the city bus, or rideshare services. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by our friendly adventure guides who will check you in and help you get all your gear ready to go. They will also give you tips, answer any questions you have, and provide directions for each of the locations. This self-guided adventure includes an electric bike rental and complete snorkel set.

The Lanikai Pillbox Hike

From our storefront, you’ll cruise around the charming town streets of Kailua and head over to the Lanikai pillbox hike trailhead. The trailhead is located in a neighborhood where there is no vehicle parking, making the electric bikes a convenient and fun way to reach the start of the trail. At the trailhead you’ll find a bike rack where you will lock up your gear before beginning your ascent.
The hike takes approximately 30 minutes to reach the top. The hike is moderately challenging and while it is family friendly, make sure to know your limits and be aware the sections of the hike are steep and uneven. There is no shade as well, so make sure to bring plenty of water. There are two World War II pillboxes to explore at the summit where you can enjoy the amazing panoramic views of the coast off of Lanikai beach. Take in the incredible turquoise blue water, white sandy beaches, and the famous Mokulua Islands in the distance. It is truly one of the most stunning viewpoints on the island and well-worth the hike to the top.

Snorkeling at Lanikai Beach

After descending from the pillbox hike, take a quick cruise over to Lanikai beach to cool off with some incredible snorkeling in Hawaii’s famous crystal-clear waters. You’ll lock your bikes at Lanikai park and walk over to the beach access point with your snorkel gear. Lanikai Beach is known for being a great spot for beginner snorkelers because of its calm, shallow waters, plenty of coral reef, and the opportunity to see tropical fish and Hawaiian green sea turtles. And nothing beats hanging out on the powdery soft sand and soaking in the sunshine and the views at one of the most famous beaches in the world.

Concluding the Adventure

When you are finished exploring in the waters of Lanikai Beach, conclude your adventure by cruising back to our storefront where our adventure guides will assist you with unloading the gear. We also have bathrooms and an outdoor shower you can use at our shop before you head out!
