Transportation to the Beach

There are two main ways to get to Lanikai Beach depending on what activities you are interested in:

  • Electric Bikes: renting electric bikes is the most adventurous and convenient way to get to the beach because you won’t have to sit in traffic or battle for a parking space. You can also rent a kayak trailer for your electric bike and effortlessly tow a kayak down to the beach. This is also a good option for those who don’t have a vehicle of their own. Learn more about our e-bike rentals here: Kailua E-bike Rentals
  • Driving Your Own Vehicle: With you own vehicle we can help you transport kayaks and paddleboards on top using roof racks and straps. This is also ideal if you want to rent gear like beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, boogie boards, etc. Click here to learn more about transporting kayaks and paddleboards on top of your vehicle: Guide to Transporting Kayaks and SUPs on Top of a Vehicle

Where to Park

The beach access for Lanikai is located in a neighborhood, making parking limited. If you want to find street parking, we recommend going early in the morning. If you rent e-bikes you don’t have to worry about parking and can lock them up at Lanikai Park near the beach access. Alternatively, you can park at Kailua Beach Park and take the scenic walking path over to Lanikai Beach.

Kayaking to Offshore Islands

One of the best adventures on the island is kayaking to the offshore islands and exploring. At Active Oahu we offer both self-guided and guided tours to best fit the needs of you and your group.

  • Kayak to Popoia Island: Popoia Island is a short paddle to an island that also acts as a seabird sanctuary, making it the perfect adventure for families and those who are new to kayaking. You’ll glide through the clear waters and enjoy incredible views all around as you paddle and once you reach the island. After reaching the island you can continue the adventure by paddling around Kailua Bay. Learn more about kayaking to Popoia Island here: Popoia Island Kayaking Adventure
  • Kayak to the Mokulua Islands: Also known as Kailua’s twin islands, the Mokulua Islands are a great option for those looking for a longer adventure, as it takes about an hour to paddle out to the islands. Once you reach them you can explore the tidepools, take a dip in the Queen’s Bath, and even snorkel off the shore. You’ll have incredible views of the ocean and mountain range you can only see from the islands. Learn more about kayaking to the Mokulua Islands here: Mokulua Islands Self Guided Kayak Adventure

Lanikai Pillbox Hike

Another adventure near Lanikai Beach is the Lanikai Pillbox Hike. This moderate level hike takes about 30 minutes to reach the summit.
