What to Know

We tend to gauge our tour based on what level the group members are comfortable with. We would suggest this tour for people who would consider themselves physically fit and situationally aware.

If you consider yourself less than physically fit or ultra beginner and unsure, don’t expect to get the full experience. The tour location often has a shore-break that can be intimidating for beginners. The tour also involves lots of swimming and calm floating.

If you feel free-diving, playing in the shore-break and spending lots of time in the water is your thing, you’ve found the right tour.

Alternative more beginner-friendly self-guided experiences are accessible with our multi-day snorkel gear rentals. Check out one or all of these small coves or shorelines on your trip: Ko’Olina coves, Turtle Bay’s Kuilima Cove, Kawela bay, Paradise Cove, Lanikai Beach, Three Tables or Sharks Cove.

How to prepare
  • Arrive early
  • Be physically fit and confident in open water
  • Bring reef safe sunscreen
  • Hydrate and eat a light meal beforehand

Things to Keep in Mind

On this tour, we look, but don’t touch. We observe and don’t chase. There will be plenty to see, so be prepared for a long swim. If we start hearing Dolphin song, there’s always the chance that the pod will swim by us to investigate. We are in their world, so plan on keeping your distance and observe. Chasing, herding or trying to get within 150 ft of dolphins is a crime. They are intelligent wild animals and should be given respect. That being said, who doesn’t fantasize about swimming with dolphins in Hawaii? There’s something amazing about seeing a creature so at-home in the water, graceful, playful and intelligent. Dolphin sightings on West Oahu are not guaranteed, but if they grace us with their presence, it sure is a treat. Just be prepared for a workout if you want that type of wildlife experience, you will usually end the tour swimming over 2 miles with fins.

Activity Overview

Kahe Point Beach Park is also known as “Electric Beach” due to the nearby power plant. This unique wildlife sanctuary has been influenced by the oil fired power plant that projects warm water about half a mile offshore. That warm water vent is teeming with life. We’ll guide you to explore this vibrant underwater ecosystem where you’ll see tropical fish, turtles, coral and even the occasional monk seal, manta ray and dolphin pod. Fish surround you and feast in abundance on the nutrients all around them, tropical fish and sometimes even sea turtles playfully tumble in the current created by these man-made warm water vents. Coral reef holds tight to the rock below you and it feels like you can just reach out and touch the tropical fish surrounding you.
